Condensate Treatment Chemicals in Bihar

Innova Corporate (India) supplies Condensate Treatment Chemicals for Bihar's steam condensate return lines, protecting against carbonic acid corrosion and oxygen pitting. In Bihar's industrial boilers – sugar mills (evaporation, crystallization), rice mills (parboiling, drying), food processing (edible oil refining, dairy), and textile units (dyeing, finishing) – steam condensate is often contaminated with carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the breakdown of bicarbonate and carbonate alkalinity in the feed water. The Ganges river water has alkalinity 150-250 ppm, while groundwater in Bihar has alkalinity 250-450 ppm. CO₂ dissolves in condensate to form carbonic acid (H₂CO₃), lowering pH to 4-5, causing severe thinning of steel condensate pipes (often seen as "red water" and pinholing leaks). Our treatment includes neutralizing amines (cyclohexylamine, morpholine, diethylaminoethanol – DEAE, 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol – AMP) and filming amines (octadecylamine, tallow amine). Neutralizing amines are volatile and carry over with steam, raising the condensate pH to 8-9 by neutralizing carbonic acid. Filming amines form a protective monolayer (1-2 nm thick) on metal surfaces, creating a hydrophobic barrier that repels water and prevents corrosion. For Bihar's large sugar mills with long-distance condensate return systems (e.g., from multiple evaporator bodies, vacuum pans, and crystallizers to the boiler house), we recommend a blend of low- and high-distribution ratio amines to protect the entire system: morpholine (distribution ratio 0.8) protects near the boiler, cyclohexylamine (3.5) protects far points, and DEAE (1.2) provides mid-range protection. Our Condensate Treatment 401 (amine blend) also contains an oxygen scavenger (erythorbic acid or DEHA) to remove residual dissolved oxygen that causes pitting. Dosing is based on boiler feed water flow (typically 10-50 ppm of amine product) and can be adjusted by monitoring condensate pH (target 8.2-9.0) and iron content (target <0.1 ppm). For food-grade applications (dairy, edible oil, fruit processing), we supply FDA-approved amines (morpholine and DEAE under 21 CFR 173.310) and filming amines that are FDA-approved for steam that contacts food (e.g., octadecylamine under 21 CFR 173.310). Field case: A Bihar sugar mill's condensate lines had leaks every 6 months; after using our neutral+filming amine blend (12 ppm), no leaks for 4+ years, and condensate iron dropped from 2 ppm to <0.1 ppm. We provide condensate pH test kits (pocket meter or indicator strips) and amine test strips (colorimetric for total amines). For online monitoring, we supply condensate pH sensors and conductivity meters. Available in 25L and 200L HDPE drums. For small boilers (e.g., in rice mills), we offer a single-drum product that combines neutralizing amine, filming amine, and oxygen scavenger. Technical support includes amine distribution ratio calculations based on your steam piping layout.

If returned to the boiler, corrosion products and process chemicals from corrosion-caused leaks contribute to the formation of damaging boiler deposits, boiler carryover, and steam-driven equipment deposits. Their presence reduces system reliability and increases operation and maintenance costs for the boiler water treatment systems throughout Bihar.

The protection of steam boiler condensate lines is an important issue affecting the operation and maintenance of industrial boiler systems and steam raising plants in the region. Our advanced technology boiler water condensate line treatment chemicals have been scientifically formulated to protect condensate pipe work from the detrimental effects of acidic corrosion caused by steam condensate.

This high performance condensate line corrosion inhibitor developed for use in Bihar's boiler water systems forms a protective water repellent film on return line pipe work. It also extends the life of condensate pipe work by retarding the rate of 'grooving' by acidic condensate, providing essential corrosion protection for the capital city's processing units.
