Biocides Glutraldehyde Based (INNOVA BCD 500) in Ahmedabad

Glutaraldehyde-based biocides (supplied as 25% or 50% active solutions) from Innova Corporate are broad-spectrum, non-oxidizing antimicrobials for Ahmedabad's industrial water treatment, preservation, and disinfection needs. Glutaraldehyde is renowned for its rapid kill, wide efficacy against bacteria (including spore-formers and SRB), fungi, and algae, and its effectiveness in alkaline conditions (pH 7-9) – which matches the typical pH of Ahmedabad's cooling water (7.5-8.5). The aldehyde groups cross-link microbial proteins, leading to irreversible cell death. For Ahmedabad's cooling towers in textile mills, chemical plants, and dairy units, glutaraldehyde is used as a shock biocide (50-150 ppm once or twice weekly) to control planktonic bacteria and biofilm formation. It also has excellent performance in the presence of organic soils (e.g., oil, grease, proteins) – making it suitable for industries where water may become contaminated with process fluids. Unlike many biocides, glutaraldehyde is non-foaming and compatible with most scale inhibitors and corrosion inhibitors (except strong reducing agents like sulfite). For reverse osmosis (RO) systems in Ahmedabad's pharmaceutical and food industries, glutaraldehyde is used for membrane preservation (storage) at 0.5-1% concentration and for periodic sanitization (0.1-0.5% recirculated for 30-60 minutes). It does not damage polyamide (TFC) membranes at recommended concentrations. In leather tanning (though more common in Bhavnagar, some leather units exist in Ahmedabad), glutaraldehyde is used as a pre-tanning agent and biocide to stabilize collagen and prevent bacterial damage to hides. For paper and pulp mills (small-scale), it controls slime on wire meshes and felt. A key characteristic: glutaraldehyde has a characteristic pungent odor – so proper ventilation is required during handling. Its half-life in water is 2-10 days depending on pH, temperature, and organic load – in Ahmedabad's summer (45°C), half-life reduces to 2-3 days, which is environmentally beneficial. For cooling towers near residential areas (e.g., hotels on SG Highway), a shorter half-life is preferred to avoid downstream toxicity. Glutaraldehyde is synergistic with quaternary ammonium compounds and DBNPA – often used in rotation to prevent resistance. Available in 25L carboys, 200L drums, and 1000L IBCs (25% or 50% concentrations). We also supply glutaraldehyde test kits (colorimetric with Schiff's reagent) for residual monitoring. For food contact applications (dairy, beverage), we provide 50% glutaraldehyde with FDA 21 CFR 173.255 compliance. Shelf life: 2 years when stored below 30°C. Technical support includes dose-response curves (minimum inhibitory concentration – MIC) for specific water systems.

Advantages in Ahmedabad:

  • INNOVA BCD 500 is a superior bactericide for Ahmedabad industries, especially with difficult and persistent organisms due to its excellent penetrating ability.
  • It is highly effective against SRBs and Biofilms found in local cooling circuits and is readily Biodegradable, ensuring environmental safety for the capital city.

Dosage :

Dosage in cooling water treatment programs 100 to 125 ppm for effective control of biocide activity, for cooling waters. Although heavily slimed cooling systems may need 200 to 300 ppm as an initial, cleanup shock dose.

Method of Feeding :

INNOVA BCD 500 can be fed as received or diluted with water minimum 10% concentration with any chemical feed solution. The chemical should be added to cooling tower basin (or any other point, which provides uniform mixing) addition should be made to metering pump to minimize handling.

Feed Requirements :

Badly fouled systems must be cleaned before treatment to start. INITIAL DOSE - When the system is noticeably fouled, slug feed 100 to 150 ppm of INNOVA BCD 500 in the system. SUBSEQUENT DOSE - When the Microbial count is evident, slug feed 80 to 125 ppm of INNOVA BCD 500.

Control Testing :

The best indication of the successful application of INNOVA BCD 500 is visual inspection of tower surfaces or monitoring changes in heat transfer on metal surface of process equipment.

Use of on-site bacterial counts or microscopic examination provide relative indicators of system cleanliness and biological control. If bacteria counts are used, Note that counts may be high immediately after biocide addition. Counts will be lower as control is achieved.

Packing :

    INNOVA BCD 500 is available in 25Kgs, 50Kgs & 200 Kgs
