DBNPA (2,2-Dibromo-3-Nitrilopropionamide) is a fast-acting, non-oxidizing biocide supplied by Innova Corporate as a 20% active liquid and solid granular form, specifically for Agra's industrial water treatment where rapid microbial control and environmental degradation are required. DBNPA is highly effective against bacteria (including SRB), fungi, and algae at low concentrations (10-50 ppm). Its key advantage for Agra's industries (especially those near the Taj Mahal sensitive zone) is its short half-life (4-12 hours) – it hydrolyzes into non-toxic byproducts (dibromoacetonitrile, dibromoacetic acid, bromide ion) that biodegrade quickly. For Agra's cooling towers, DBNPA is used as a shock biocide (once or twice weekly) to quickly knock down bacterial populations without leaving long-term residues. It is particularly useful for biofilm removal – DBNPA penetrates EPS layers and kills embedded cells. For reverse osmosis systems in Agra's textile/hotel industries, DBNPA is a membrane-compatible biocide (does not damage polyamide RO membranes) used for intermittent sanitization at 50-100 ppm for 2-4 hours. Unlike glutaraldehyde, DBNPA does not cause allergic sensitization (but still handle with PPE). It is non-foaming and compatible with most antiscalants except reducing agents (sulfite). In Agra's tanneries, DBNPA is used to preserve hides and control bacterial degradation during soaking. Storage: DBNPA solutions should be kept below 30°C and used within 6 months.
